How many different diets do you know of? 50? 100? 200? Which is the Best Diet?
Let me tell you the industry secret: each diet just moves around amounts of protein, fat, and carbohydrates (carbs) and throws in a gimmick.
Paleo dials up protein, and restricts carbs- the caveman diet! Keto has a huge amount of fat, and restricted carbs- the ‘brainfood’ diet. The Zone diet is balanced, but you eat protein with every meal. Vegan is animal cruelty free, heavy emphasis on carbs, less on the protein.
So which one is the RIGHT one? A lot of them have the studies that show people losing weight. How can they ALL work? Because, if you are paying attention to what you are eating–(maybe because you are trying to follow a new diet)– you are going to lose weight.
How do I lose Weight?
The diet that doesn’t re-arrange any of the fat/protein/carb but you still lose weight without counting: write down everything you eat. Most people lose weight.
Still want to lose more weight? Try eating only foods that grew out of the ground, or came from an animal. If it comes in plastic it shouldn’t have more than 3 ingredients. If you don’t know what kind of plant it comes from, don’t eat it…(no, I have never seen a Canola plant.) Most people lose weight.

Unfortunately my best diet, and your best diet, might not be the same one. Your neighbor doesn’t have the same body as you, so why is the same diet going to be best for both of you?
You might have an idea of what works for you– maybe there was a time when you felt especially fit and energized. What did you eat? –Or you might have to experiment a little.
Here’s another secret: you are probably not going to die (O.K. those of you that have medical contraindications, I am not talking about you) if you don’t eat a variety of foods for a few days. If you are interested in finding out what YOUR best diet is, you are going to have to get a little weird for a few days, maybe a week.
Try vegan for a few days. How do you feel? Try keto- a high fat diet, with a little protein thrown in, zero carbs, for a few days. Lastly, try eating mostly protein for every meal, take out all the grains.
Was there one that made you feel amazing? Were you starving? How did your skin look? Maybe you saw your waist tighten a bit.
Now add some variety in, add a little of whatever you took out, and check in again. Still feel good? Tweak as needed. That’s Your Best Diet.
My Best Diet is…
…really low in grains and sugars. I love rice, I don’t eat it. I watch how much fruit I eat, and I eat as many vegetables as I can. But–for me– this means I can eat without counting calories, drink a fairly bodacious amount of wine, never feel hungry, eat dessert when I feel like it, and still stay at about 21% bodyfat at 41 year old. Because I found My Perfect Diet.
Could I look better? Sure. Do I feel like I look good enough. Yes! I wish I had a 6 pack of abs. BUT I also birthed 5 children. SO, yeah, I feel ok about it.
